Lunar Eclipses in 2027 and How They Differ from Luxor’s Solar Eclipse

Searching for a “2027 eclipse” can lead to two very different events. The Luxor travel event on 2 August concerns the Sun. A lunar eclipse concerns the Moon passing through Earth’s shadow.

The 2027 lunar calendar

NASA lists three penumbral lunar eclipses: 20 February, 18 July and 17 August 2027, with dates expressed in Universal Time. These are not total lunar eclipses or guaranteed “blood moon” events. A local calendar date can differ when an event crosses midnight.

What penumbral means

The Moon passes through the lighter outer part of Earth’s shadow. The change may be subtle, so the spectacle should not be presented as a total eclipse of the Moon. Visibility depends on where the Moon is above the horizon and which stages occur at night in your location.

What can be planned in Luxor

The linked Luxor calendar lists the 20–21 February penumbral eclipse as locally visible. Check its local times and the horizon conditions before planning an evening. A global date for July or August is not proof that the event can be seen from the hotel. The 2 August solar eclipse is a separate daytime event.

Choose the right trip and equipment

For ordinary lunar viewing, solar eclipse glasses are not required. For the Sun, proper solar-viewing protection is essential during partial phases. Tell the hotel which event you mean and your exact dates. For August travel, use our solar-eclipse guide; for a lunar visit, ask for accommodation after verifying local visibility.
